[CINC] doxen smuggled onto Island Packers

Hi all,

Dave and I had a spectacular weekend on Santa Cruz island.  On Sunday i led a group of Canadians, Germans, Russians, and New Yorkers up to Cavern Point.  The Russian pre-teen had good questions, and at the island fox stop asked about endangered insects on the island. Grazing for a response, I talked about scorpions and such, after which his mom (who had been translating for other members of the party) said something like "I still don't see why we can't bring dogs." Then I told the group about the island fox (one gigantic reason for no dogs), but she seemed unconvinced.

It wasn't until afterwards, talking with Ranger Tim, that I learned they had asked on the mainland to bring their dog aboard, and were told "absolutely not." They smuggled him on anyway, and when the captain found out, he told them they had two choices: someone stays with the dog on the boat all day, or you disembark and get arrested." So one of their party stayed aboard. . . .
