[CINC] CX Sat 11/6/2010

Today we had 21 people from Westmont, UCSB (with 2 Ireland exchange
students), a family from Goleta, a family from MA and a couple from LA up
for the day

saw a few commons right off West Beach to get started then nothing for next
2 hours

75 Risso's with about a dozen Offshore Bottlenose Dolphins with a little
breaching and jumping mixed in with a few sea lions

cruised toward AI then headed toward SCI looking for whales, cruised by
Prisoner's Harbor and Pelican Harbor  

we got a mile or so offshore and the weather was quite nice, not the dark
clouds and breezy winds we woke up to

the water was very calm all day which made for happy passengers ( and crew)

 we saw some bird action off shore so we headed a mile off the island and
saw 400 more Common Dolphins with a dozen or so babies 

with the final sighting being a blue shark swimming at the surface for a few
minutes 

There were also 2 Navy ships practicing some maneuvers in the channel. One
looked very stealthy with all sold gray surfaces and the other was a battle
ship with planes on the deck and helicopters which were flying around.

Yesterday they saw 5 humpbacks in the area we went to today,  no whales
today.
