Fifteen Years of Service:
Carol Linteau, Mark Norder, and Pat Smith
Carol, Mark, and Pat are park volunteers with the Coastal Marine Archeology Resources (CMAR) group—an avocational group dedicated to discovering, recording, interpreting, monitoring, and protecting the unique maritime heritage of park and sanctuary waters.

Carolyn McCleskey - Carolyn was a member of the original Whale Corps volunteer program that started in 1996. She supports the CINC photo-id research effort and has provided consistent and active outreach on whale watch trips over all these years

Andrea Mills - Andrea started volunteering for the park when she started working with Island Packers in 1995. She is extremely knowledgeable about park resources and provides exceptional interpretive experiences for visitors on the islands and underwater through the Channel Islands Live program.
Andrea has been the lead interpreter presenting the Live Dive.

Valerie Olson - Valerie started with the original Whale Corps volunteer program in 1996. She remains active in the Channel Islands Naturalist Corps program, donating over 100 hours in 2010. Valerie has been dedicated to quality interpretation on the whale watch boats and she has helped to develop several key educational props used by CINC volunteers including blue whale and gray whale flip cards.

Inge Rose - Inge has donated over 700 hours every year, including 815 hours this year. Inge serves as our primary naturalist on Truth Aquatic boats. On these trips, Inge not only provides guided hikes for the visitors, she eats, sleeps and lives in close quarters on the boat with them. She is essentially on duty 24 hours a day for as many as 5 days.

Sanctuary Advisory Council Leadership Award: ERIC KETT
This award recognizes that, since the inception of the Sanctuary Advisory Council way back in 1998, we’ve had the privilege of working with a remarkable person from our community that has infused the group with passion and inspiration. A strong passion for the ocean and it’s care; a deep love and knowledge of the waters surrounding the Channel Islands; civic-minded by nature with a personal commitment to community service; a hunger to learn ever more about all things related to marine conservation; a willingness to step up and take on additional volunteer duties – to rise to the challenge of volunteer leadership. Eric’s nearly 9 years of Sanctuary Advisory Council service has earned him the respect and trust of his peers, and leadership positions on the Council since 2005.

Channel Islands Naturalist Corps Blue Whale Award: Joel Justin
The Channel Islands Naturalist Corps Blue Whale Award was established to recognize volunteer service that is above and beyond the required activities and hours for the program while participating in all facets of the program. Joel has contributed 1045 hours to the sanctuary and park over the past year! Joel’s invaluable and enduring efforts have gone a long way in ensuring the preservation and protection of the park and sanctuary for future generations. In educating visitors about the treasures of the park and sanctuary, his dedication can only be described as inspirational, not only for the visitors, but also for other volunteers and staff.
Lighthouse Award: Carolyn Greene
The Lighthouse Award was established to recognize volunteer service that is above and beyond the normal level of commitment which is vital to the success of the program. Carolyn Greene is an amazing Channel Islands volunteer who contributes in many different ways to the park including the Natural Resource Division with land bird monitoring and vegetation restoration, as well as the interpretive division where she conducts educational programs for visitors.
Thank you and I am looking forward to 2011! We are currently developing the schedule for your in-service meetings and reviewing your surveys -- in the meantime get out there and enjoy the beauty of the Channel Islands during the winter season.
Regards,
Shauna Bingham
