Although not a whale watching trip, today's trip aboard the Islander to
Santa Cruz island deserves mention. About midway through the shipping
lanes, off the port side there were some spouts . . . and then a tall,
very dark dorsal fin, most definitely belong to an Orca. Captain Anthony
took us over and the crowded boat was treated to some fantastic views of the
four Orcas. They swam in front of and along side the boat providing
multiple photo ops. Passengers were obviously ecstatic. Tom Flor and I as
naturalists aboard were equally ecstatic. Once on the island multiple fox
sightings continue to be the norm.
