Ahoy Mates, Santa Barbara County this Sunday offers a neat combination of lectures about Santa Barbara Channel marine mammals and Chumash local history. As advertised previously on the Rainlist, the SB Ty Warner Marine Museum on the pier will have the 5-7 P.M. presentation on marine mammals, featuring John Camambokidis of Cascadia Research. Prior to this, at the Cachuma Lake Recreational Hall, the Cachuma Lake Nature Center is kicking off a new lecture series. From 2-4 P.M. Nakia Zavalla, the cultural director for the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, will give a free lecture on the Chumash way of life before the European settlements, with additional info about the re-emergence of the Samala Chumash language. Ms. Zavalla was reared on the Chumash reservation. It only takes a half hour to drive down to the pier from the lake. Admission is $8 per vehicle at the lake. 90 minutes of the parking on the pier is excused by getting your ticket stamped at the Marine Museum. Paul
