Two Blues off SMI
Two Humpbacks Between SRI and SCI
One Humpback south of Platform Grace
The Islander (Captain Anthony, Luke and Joel) had a light load - about twenty passengers.
Seas were light. We headed toward the the west end of SCI to where Matt of the Condor had seen five humpbacks the day before. No whales. Kept going west past SRI. Finally, just north of Prince Island San Miguel Joel spotted spouts. We had two blues! most of those aboard had never seen a Blue so they were delighted. After about forty five minutes the Condor joined us. We remained for a couple more breathing cycles and then headed off in search of other creatures.
We found the humpbacks in the SCI/SRI gap and stayed with them for three cycles, each ending with flukes. The wind was in our faces and blowing at over 15 knots so viewing was a challenge.
We headed for Painted Cave.
On the way home from the cave we spotted the lone humpback; breaching, head slapping, tail lobbing, spy hoping.
Of interest by their absence, we saw no dolphins.
