5 humpbacks
300-400 dolphins
about 65 happy pasengers

We left the harbor in some light fog which quickly burned off to reveal a beautiful sunny day. First sighting was a small pod of commons(20) followed by a larger pod(300) a little farther out. And then the humpbacks, one then two, no three, four and then, five a short distance off the coast of Santa Cruz just east of West Point. They were feeding and not particularly playful except for a couple of tail lobs and some trumpeting. The sea was getting a little choppy so Captain Mat opted for a visit to Painted Cave before returning home. Enroute we saw another small pod (30) of commons. Great group of interestred and informed passengers, from Europe and the US, were delighted with the sightings. Great day with Captain Mat, Matt # 2, and Brooke and shared with Rae Emmet and Carolyn McClesky on PID.
