Greetings Naturalists,
Two groups of California Sea Lions:
> 100
~ 50
Two groups of Common Dolphins
~ 30
~ 100 - 150
No Whales
We left harbor under Captain Dave's command, and his crew assisting,
along with 25 passengers (some from New Jersey, Arizona, Colorado.
Very nice and inquisitive). Howard Fisher was the other Naturalist on
board. It was a pleasure to work with him. We encountered the small
pod of commons just 30 minutes out of the harbor. This set a happy
tone for the trip. At bout noon, we came upon the large group of sea
lions, a first for me. Dave headed towards San Miguel Is., but the
whales didn't show themselves. We then visited Painted Cave, and on
our way back, encountered the large pod of commons. People were
delighted. Upon our return to the harbor, the passengers were
pleasantly surprised when presented with tickets for another CX trip.
A second chance at finding whales.
