This is a reminder about the annual *Coastal Clean Up Day* on
Saturday, September 25 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.. Wear your uniform and get
CINC volunteer hours at the following sanctuary and park sponsored
locations (or at any beach you choose):

Ventura Co.:

    * Emma Wood State Beach (Site captain: Lisa Anderson, CINC) Meet
on Main Street to camp entrance; meet at kiosk.
    * Ventura Harbor (Sponsored by: Channel Islands Park Foundation)
You may sign up at CINP Visitor Center that morning to be part of
National Public Lands Day. You will receive a free coupon for one
day's entrance to a national park.

Santa Barbara Co.

    * Santa Claus Lane Beach (Site captain: David Telleen-Lawton,
CINC) Meet towards the west entrance of Santa Claus Lane, close
      to the street.
    * Gaviota State Beach (Site captain: Sandra Squires, CINC) Meet by
      the lifeguard tower.

Wear sunscreen, shoes, and hat. When you check in at the cleanup
location, you will be given trash bags, pencils, and a special data card
to tally the items you collect. If at all possible, bring your own
<http://www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/ccd28.html> container for
collecting trash, such as a reusable bucket, a milk jug with the top cut
off, or a reused shopping bag. You can also bring your own work gloves.
With a little effort, you can help move us closer to being a zero waste
event by reducing the amount of disposable trash bags and gloves
discarded on Coastal Cleanup Day
<http://www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/ccd28.html>.

Data collection is important! Your data goes into the Ocean
Conservancy's international database, which is used to identify the
sources of debris and to help devise solutions to the marine debris
problem. Be sure to return trash, recyclables and your data card to the
beach or site captain after the cleanup.

Thank you!!!

~Tina
