A mixed crowd of passengers, including 20 last minute walk-ups, from England, Ireland and all over the place, boarded the Condor Express and we motored out on glass like seas. Looked for the blues they saw on Sunday near Santa Cruz then headed west. Toward the west end of Santa Rosa Cpt. Mat spotted the blows and saw the fins, at first he thought they were Risso's but the blows were taller than that. It turned out to be the five orcas spotted this weekend by IPCO on the backside of Anacapa. The male was the one seen before in the Channel with the top of his dorsal fin gone. A large group of sea lions in their path saw them and they got the heck out of there! But the orcas didn't seem interested in them, so maybe they had reservations for dinner at the Elephant Seal rookery on San Miguel. I was especially excited because this was my first time seeing orcas in the Channel, and I got some good photo ids.
Happy sightings!
Lisa
