Hi Naturalists,
PM Trip:
2 Gray Whales
1 long zig-zagging formation of Brown Pelicans
Tens of California Sea Lions
81 passengers
Crew: Cptn. Jason, Cptn. Anthony, Dani, 2 CINC Eugene Radding, Maria
Ornelas
It was a lovely day out in the SB Channel looking for whales today.
Overcast, breezy, calm seas, and wonderful people (a large group of
9th-12th grade students from Bakersfield). The 2 Grays were in the
same area, just 30 minutes out of the harbor. One treated us to a
powerful breech (I myself saw only part of the whale on the surface of
the water, and heard the commotion among the passengers, my husband
and daughter included). The whales were northbound and traveling
together at a slow, steady pace. We stayed with them for about 40
minutes. Afterwards, Captn. Jason took us to the stairs at Anacapa,
and then to spy on the California Sea Lions just around Arch Rock. At
Arch Rock is where we saw flying the long, zig-zagging line of
pelicans. No dolphins or other whales were to be seen today by The
Vanguard passengers, but we were all happy campers!?
