Heavy overcast skies and strong west swell gave way to sunny skies and calmer seas as we cruised toward the West, finding an Er cow /calf pair moving slowly, finally giving us a few good views. Capt. Dave moved offshore a bit, but we had no luck seeing other species for the group of SBCC students and Michelle(Marine Bio Prof) plus other viewers.
12PM
Sunnier skies and calmer seas, traveling near the coast to join Sunset Kidd watching
an Er cow/calf pair. The calf traveled close to the surface, giving good views and moving
at a good pace, but Mom was very elusive and stayed below most of the time. Moving offshore, Dave spotted a humpback who fluked once and disappeared.
As the only Naturalist and PID, I stayed on the lower deck most of the time, finding room
to take some shots from there while talking to the very interested and interesting visitors.
