Humpback pod trainees Barbara Hilburn and Larry Driscoll joined me for two trips today and what a day!
There was no morning trip, so we went out at noon and looked for grays. None to be found. So Capt. Dave headed out 14 miles to find humpbacks -- eureka!
Eleven humpbacks close enough to identify the individuals. Breaching, tail slapping and fluking all around. We could see spouts all around us-- at least another twenty whales in the distance!
Two small pods of coastal bottle nose as well. What a treat.
3:00 boat: twelve humpbacks, close enough for good viewing of tubercles. They mugged the boat. Fluking, breaching, more tail lobbing!
Matt as crew, Brooke in the galley. Great day in The channel.
Calm seas,
