Thanks Kathy,
I think the second reason in quotes is most important, with the amplification of virtual reality causing real hazards. I think too many folks are now thinking their virtual world on the computer study can replace real physical practice and skill training via real repetition.
Example: My current roomer, a computer science major at UCSB, decided to go last week with a friend who would take the both of them on a private rental plane through the Grand Canyon! He just got his flying license in Santa Barbara. Both are glued to their computers in simulated flying games. Old common sense makes one think that flying through the up and down drafts of the Grand Canyon takes more diligent study and thought then computer practice can provide. My older generation advice meant nothing. Thank god their 93 Explorer broke down on them in Baker prior to getting to the Vegas fly out! They forgot to check the oil in the older car! Paul
