[CINC] From the SB Co Birding List - Condor Express Sept 17 Pelagic Trip

Here's a sample of the goodies seen on a "short" 4.5 hour trip inside the
Channel yesterday.  Reminder, the Sept 17 trip is and 8-hour trip which will
surely yield additional wildlife sightings and discussions with local
experts on board.

Hi all,

I rode the Condor Express today, it was another great day in the channel.
The birds of note are, 7 Northern Fulmars, 8 Cassin's Auklets, 11 Ashy Storm
Petrels, 3 Common Terns, 16 Sabine's Gulls, 1 Black-vented, 40+ Pink-footed,
250 Sooty Shearwaters, 2,000+ Red Phalaropes, 300+ Red-necked Phalaropes, 2
Parasitic, 3 Pomarine Jaegers and 1 Common Murre.

Also seen were 300 Risso's Dolphins, 3,000 Common Dolphins and 1 very cool
Basking Shark. It feed on krill at the surface until we left it. This shark
was so close to the boat we could see it's mouth open as it ate the krill.
Another cool thing we experienced was the mass of shearwaters feeding next
to the boat as we sat and watched the dolphins feed. The shearwaters would
hit the water and dove into the school of bait fish, while the Sabine's
gulls feed from the surface.

There is a 8 hour pelagic trip going out on September 17th this pelagic trip
will be great for photography and adding county birds to your list. If you

good up and down the state and should get better in a few weeks.
