Numerous sea lion pods
A handful of Dall’s porpoises

A small but enthusiastic group of 13 boarded the Condor Express from Great
Britain, Connecticut, Ohio, Seattle, Los Angeles and Buellton on a sunny
Thursday morning. Capt. Mat was planning to go to the gap between Santa Cruz
and Santa Rosa in search of grays but the closer we got high winds and waves
prevented us from reaching our destination comfortably so we cruised westward.
This is a route seldom taken due to the prevailing west winds off Point
Conception but today it was calm with great visibility. Unfortunately there
were no whales in sight but all enjoyed the leisurely cruise in the Gaviota area
and a side trip to Platform Holly. Along the way we did see several pods of
active sea lions and a handful of Dall’s porpoises. The small
naturalist/passenger ratio gave Bruce Matthews, John Kuizenga and me an
opportunity to get to know our adventurers well. Many thanks to the Condor
crew of Captain Mat, Matt, Brooke and Bob Perry.

P.S. I believe the current trips are scheduled to end at 2:30 not 3:00 as
posted on Volunteer Spot.
