[CINC] New Sighting Log Forms...

Hi Everyone,

For those of you at the meeting last night, you know about the new sighting logs. For those who weren’t, please read on.

The sighting log has been updated with regard to how we record distances. In the past, we were asked to estimate the distance and record that number for each sighting. To simplify things, going forward, all distances will be be recorded in one of three categories:

A = <25 yards (25 yards is the length of the boat)
B = 25 to 250 yards
C = >250 yards

So instead of recording the actual distance, you will now record either A, B or C in the distance field. You can start using this method right away, even if the new forms aren’t on your boat just yet.

To help you estimate those distances, 25 yards is approximately the length of Condor Express and all three Island Packer boards. So a quick glance at the boat will help you determine A vs. B. 250 yards is the distance from the Visitor Center auditorium to the land directly across the harbor. Whenever you are at the VC (which should be 8+ times per year at least), do a quick distance check.

The new forms have these codes in the lower right corner so you don’t have to remember them. If you want to download your own copies, you can find them at:
