Fellow naturalists:

IPCO transportation Feb 22 aboard Island Adventure on absolutely flat seas with approx 55 passengers, mostly escapees from cold weather snowy places

Great kayaking, hiking and just plain old relaxing at ESCI.

18 on interpretative hike to Cavern Point treated to a pair of cavorting foxes at the picnic tables pre-hike! Guess what they were looking for? It was tuff to tear the hikers away from the fox display.

Better yet, foxes were appearing from seemingly every direction along the trail. I stopped counting after 24 sightings.

So if you're a fox lover or maybe haven't seen one 'in the wild' get to Scorpion soon!

I'll speculate that this period before they 'den up' is full of territorial squabbles, extra feeding by the females to bulk up for pup bearing and taking advantage of all the available fresh water and resulting good stuff to eat.

PS - I have a picture of a fox seated literally at the feet of a visitor at a picnic table that is vaguely reminiscent of a domesticated canine or house cat! If you're interested I can compress it and forward that photo separately upon request. They are sooooo darn cute!
