Hello Naturalists,
Sightings:
9 Gray whales-3 in SBC2500 Common Dolphins18 Risso Dolphins6-8 Bottlenose Dolphins (at Harbor entrance)
Great Trip with Captain Mat and Captain Dave at the helm. We had 25 bundled up folks with a small group from Malaysia and a couple from the British Isles who had not seen whales before. The 2500 Common Dolphins were definitely a highlight as they were moving as a huge group very rapidly and in one direction and the view was as spectacular as I remember ever seeing, looking off to the side.
It was fairly cold and periodically windy with a small/medium swell.
The Malaysian Group was particularly excited to see the Bottlenose dolphins and they were right up close to the boat and stuck around for a few moments as we entered the harbor at the end of our ride.
The group of 5 Gray whales that we watched for the longest time were assumed to be a mating pod of younger whales. They moved around a lot but views were close enough to satisfy our enthusiastic group.
An excellent day of sightings!! First posting in a while, will shorten in the future!!
Thanks! Laura Shelton
