7 Grays
8-12 Risso's
With Captain Frank at the wheel today, we headed off to the west end of
Santa Cruz island. The wind, swell, and beaufort picked up on the way, but
Capt. Frank had no problem finding 3 Grays a few miles past the mid-channel
buoy. We stayed with them for a bit then moved on, then Mat found a small
group of Risso's that approached close to the boat and allowed for some good
views by the passengers. We then headed toward the island to view a couple
of more Grays that were in front of and behind us. Then we went to Painted
Cave for good look inside. We headed a bit east past Fry's to watch a couple
of more whales that were most likely the 2 from a little earlier.
It was a great day to be on the water with fellow naturalists Gary
Delanoeyeand Laura Shelton, with Captain Fred, Captain Mat, D.J., Bob
Perry, and
Brooke of the Condor Express. As well as a favorite passenger of mine
Bernardo Alps and 86 other passengers from near and far.
