Dear CINC and marine life enthusiast, Yesterday, on the Vagabond trip to Anacapa with the Ice Plant kids and leaders, and Catherine French, as the day Hike leader, we had a discussion bounced around, going and coming, about the resurrection of the dolphin slaughter in The Cove at Taiji, Japan. It was agreed amongst we that discussed the matter, that both emails to the Japanese Ambassador and to various Aquariums with dolphin programs, with an attached account of recent blog eye witness accounts, was a good ploy. I just emailed the Ambassador, with the comment that I have not purchased, and will not purchase, anything made in Japan until their government stops its support for an archaic dolphin fishing industry spin-off from live dolphin auctions: Releasing instead of killing. What choice is smarter for their struggling economy: a local dolphin fisheries or a healthier world trade? I also emailed Sea Life Park in Hawaii, actually thanking them for not partaking in the Taiji Auctions for their dolphins, and suggesting they, like the huge London Aquarium on the Thames River in England, embark on a "Save the Dolphins and the Whales" educational campaign? In both cases, the Jan 28th blog from the Taiji slaughter was pasted. So, in both cases above, the reality of boycott is posed as a threat against a desire for profit. The documentation of this secret dolphin slaughter in the award winning "The Cove" implied strongly that this boycott tool be used to save these dolphin, as do our current courageous bloggers. BUT WHEREVER THE TOOL OF BOYCOTT IS APPLIED, IT DISGRACES THE INTELLIGENCE OF OUR DOLPHIN UNDERSEA COUSINS TO BOYCOTT OUT OF ??? THE VERY DOCUMENTATION SO COURAGEOUSLY OBTAINED TO EXPOSE THE SLAUGHTER! It shocks me find out more and more, how many of those sympathetic to the dolphins plight, refused to go see The Cove. These documentations, like all movies, get more showings when more turn out to see them! How smart is it to effectively join a boycott of the people who don't want them shown at all!? Food for thought, and ways to take action now, if so inclined, Paul Petrich
