AM trip -

we left SB in pouring rain and it continued most of the way to Ventura

we left the dock and it was raining but were told the storm cell was to be
quick and clear skies would be seen by the time we got to the islands and it
was

5 Grays

100 Commons

3 elephants seals on the back side of Anacapa: male, female and pup born in
last week (maybe there is no more real estate up in San Simeon and looking
for a quieter piece of property) except for all the Sea Lions covering the
rocks/beaches and swimming around

2 Chinese couples; the guys spoke good English; the gals none; guys worked
IBM China, very well heeled, well travelled and well biased . . .

one starts a conversion with "the seas are in trouble aren't they?". I'm
thinking yeah cause your country is killing all the sharks (but I didn't say
it) BUT what was interesting is that he knew there are problems with the
environment and the oceans (albeit filtered thru his communist Chinese
government). He made reference to a movie he saw that sounded like The Cove
but it sounded like it was renamed and edited for release in China; the
oceans problems are very slanted as a problem with the Japanese people
according to him. Since he was engaging and educated I asked about shark
finning and he basically said "China doesn't do that - it must be Taiwanese
boats". I could tell the info he was getting was highly filtered thru his
communist China. I did more listening than talking and it was very
interesting! He did say that the trip he was on he read about in a Lonely
Planet book he bought at home in Beijing. Changing subjects, he started
talking about trade and how all the things he had (American brand name
clothes, really nice Canon camera and lens, other guy had a nice Nikon
camera were all bought in China ( and made in China ). We were talking about
camera lens he had and what we would have paid $1500 for here in the states
he paid $300 USD in China "because everything (he had on and with him) was
made in China".

PM trip

Only 14 people

Water was Nasty, Sloppy, Waves splashing over the boat!

Seen Deadliest Catch? - we thought were on it

Even Capt Jimmy said it was not fun (in the wheel house, not on speaker)

Saw nothing for close to 3 hours!

Saw the e-seals; they should be there a while with the same sea lions

1 harbor seal

Toward the very end we saw about 1000 Commons - they were jumping really
high and in large groups - we had not seen 10-20 jumping in unison like this
before - it was like they were staying together to know when to jump through
the huge waves to get air

After getting beat up watching the dolphins we headed home and it was rough
until we were docked
