[CINC] Saving a young Humpback in Sea of Cortez

Folks,
Be careful about sending this video around without attaching any warning to
it. I once interviewed a whale researcher/rescuer who had both his forearms
broken while trying to cut and unravel similar fish nets from whales. Well
meaning humans are often moved to action by such entangled victims, and the
Baja event had an apparently happy ending, but success is not a given. Such
rescues should only be attempted by people with proper tools and
training‹and in the U.S. these people are licensed by NOAA and can be found
along the West Coast. Peter Howorth of the Santa Barbara Marine Mammal
Center is the local contact (805-687-3255); I¹m not certain about the
Ventura area, but NOAA¹s Joe Cordaro (562-980-4017) would be a good person
to ask.
