3 humpback/calf pairs
1 lone humpback.
Many sooty shearwaters

We departed with 33 people on board from Santa Barbara, Seattle, Athens
(Georgia), U.K., Germany and Canada. Capt Dave spotted the first humpback
pair about 10 miles due south of the harbor. They stayed with us for 40
minutes with very good views. 5 miles further south another humpback pair,
and again they stayed quite awhile, one very good PID-quality fluke showing.
Then a nice several mile cruise heading east close to the shore of Santa
Cruz Is with Capt Dave giving an excellent running commentary on our way to
pick up 30+ kids and teachers who had spent the night at Prisoners's Cove
(Cleveland elementary school- 5th and 6th graders, very well behaved and
organized); clearly they had a great time and were glad to see us. Soon
after leaving the dock, we spotted one lone humback briefly just 1 mile from
Prisoner's Cove, then another half mile one more humpback/calf pair giving
very good views to the thrilled kids. Rain held off til we docked in SB and
the seas were quite calm. Great trip!
