17 Humpbacks
6 Blues
1 Minke
1500 Common dolphins (Dc)
1 Purple striped jelly (large)
2 "Egg yolk" jellies
Sooty Shearwaters
Pigeon guillemots
Another spectacular CX trip with lots of sightings and a great gathering of
52
spectators. This was a private charter for Pescatores, a delightful group of
long time Santa Barbara residents who meet socially on a regular basis.
These members including Condor Express owner Capt. Fred Benko and
guests were awed by all the wildlife. Partly cloudy skies with scale like
sea
ripples prevailed throughout the trip.
Whale behaviors seen were lunge feeding, breaching, pec slapping, chin
slapping, spy hopping, logging (stationary behavior), fluking, and milling.
Captains Fred and Mat provided educational comments on sightings and
Santa Cruz Island, with a nice visit to Painted Cave. Supplemental comments
were also made by CINC newbie naturalist Michael Berg, and veteran
naturalists Debra Herring and Gary Delanoeye.
A good time was had by all.
