Ahoy mates,
Calm seas prevailed over and back to Scorpion Anchorage with Capt Dave at the helm. I had 9 visitors join me on the Cavern Pt. hike, and the 5 of them who were from landlocked locales ( Switzerland and Oklahoma ) followed me to Potato Harbor. From start to the end, CI Fox sightings excited them all! Sea Lions were also abundant, and they were barking loudly at at both Cavern Pt and Potato Harbor. The only negative was the poor visibility; No view of the expansive range of Chumash nation was visible on the mainland.
Of the 45 passengers, half were attending an important archeological conferencing session on the island pertinent to the possible local display of the first Chumash archeological discoveries made on the islands. The Santa Barbara Chumash Council leaders were present, as were the Superintendents of the CINP and CINMS, and administrators from the SB Museum of Natural History. A French archeologist was the pioneer in researching and collecting Chumash artifacts on the island, and these remain in a French museum. What is being discussed, is a possible traveling exhibit of these artifacts that will show them at the SB Museum of Natural History. Stay tuned. Paul Petrich
