8 Blues
1 Hump (or 2)
1 Minke
6 White Sided Dolphins
150 Commons
Several egg yolk jellies

It was a Blues sort of day. But the lone Hump put on a feeding exhibition and the approximately 30 passengers got to see some lunge behavior and the efficiency of the throat plaits. The Blues were uncommonly fluky today with at least 2 fluking several times as they too seemed to be feeding on the surface. But the star of the show was a Blue calf who sped about, experimented with breaching (getting about 1/2 out of the water once or twice) and ultimately rejoining Mom. The Minke was pure Minke... a couple of dorsal views and then... gone.

Almost dead calm conditions, light winds; some surge on the Painted Cave approach; fog burn-off around 1100. The usual international crowd aboard: Sweden, Austria, Ireland. Also 2 locals and statesiders from Utah, Colorado and Arizona where there are no whales (except maybe in a few of our sighting reports).

Crew: Mat, Dave and Matt providing great narrative and yummy food and naturalists Vivi and Cat (PID) and yours truly...

A very nice and mellow day out there.
