Re: Golden eagle on SRI?
My corrections are below in brackets.
Second Good News. On the way over the Ranger dropped of Peter Sharp
[spelled
Sharpe :)], Eagle Expert Extraordinary [only expert on Channel Island
eagles], and his team on West Anacapa where he went to
investigate a reported new Bald Eagle nest. On our return, the Ranger
stopped to pick them up. Peter happily reported that a healthy 6-7 week old
chick [8-9 weeks old] was tagged and given a transformer [transmitter]. The
proud parents were two SCI parents. Peter also said there is a possibility
that another chick was rustling around in the nearby brush [I heard some
strange calling occasionally, but don't know if it was an eagle and
couldn't
find anything]. The two new nests on Santa Rosa Island have failed, but 5
of
7 [4 of 7] on Catalina have chicks! Total Bald Eagles on all 8 islands are
70-75 [I'm including chicks in nests] right now. Peter said the lone
reported Golden Eagle floating around SRI is not so apparent right now [I
said there were some sightings of goldens on Cruz earlier this year, but
nothing lately].
