1 blue
1 minke
7 humpbacks
230 common dolphin
Rough seas 1/2 boat seasick, but for all the rest we had a great time riding the Island bucking bronco, some of us squealing in delight. We saw our first humpbacks, a cow calf pair on the west end of Santa Cruz. 2 sea lions were swimming and playing with the calf. We then headed west in search of blues and ended up seeing one about 50 miles out, just past San Miguel. We only got 2 spouts and a tail fluke and never saw it again. We then watched a lone humpback just lingering below the surface of the water, never diving or showing much of it's body. On the way to painted cave we saw a cow calf pair swimming with dolphins, not sure if it was the pair we saw earlier, as the would have had to have traveled quite a distance from where we saw them earlier. After Painted cave a passenger saw a whale, I luckily saw the dorsal fin, and it was a minke, we got one more look and it was gone. Most everyone had a great time even the seasick passenger loved painted cave and the easy ride home. Thanks to the great crew Captain Lee and Captain Steve and Diane for a great trip. Debbie shelley
