Ahoy CINC Mates, It was a great day with Captain Anthony at the helm with approximately 50 passengers, with about 15 going on to Prisoner's Harbor. It was a cool day, but calm seas and clear skies. Marty Flam shared his expertise at the Visitor's center and I took 15 on the Cavern Point hike. For this CINC volunteer it was a day for a record sighting number of island foxes: about 10! One even sighted on the barren eroded expanses just east of Cavern Point. I have not seen so many in one day on the island since volunteer fence building in the late 1980s. Other sightings: Peregrine falcons off Cavern Point, a Rhinoceros Auklet skimming waves close to the boat, and Common Dolphin playing in our wake not far off the anchorage. Interesting passengers included a young lady 10 years old and her mother, who were on there last leg of a year long journey exploring our National Parks and State parks from near their home in Maryland through Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Washington, British Columbia, Alaska, Oregon, Northern California and the Sierras, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and the best for last, Southern California deserts and the CINP! Of course home teaching was expected along the way, and the young lady, in return, will have a lot to share with her class mates. Paul
