Good morning, CINC! Please refer to the attached updated policy
regarding posts to the RAIN list. We have developed some new policies
which we hope will help streamline the list and prevent problems with
rejected posts. With limited staffing it will be difficult to approve
attachments and monitor the list as we have been, so we really
appreciate your understanding and cooperation!
Following is the full text from this updated policy, with significant
updates in blue. Please see the attachment for more detail.
Thanks,
Tina

_RAIN E-mail Listserv_
The RAIN list is reserved for Channel Islands Naturalist Corps
communications and training. It is an active list, and a good way to
keep up to date on the CINC activities and ocean-related news. The list
is used by sanctuary and Park staff as a major form of communication to
send out meeting reminders, boat schedule updates, and special volunteer
opportunities. This is a PUBLIC email list, and anything that you email
may be posted on the Web and accessible via search engines.
LIST RULES
1.As a volunteer of the sanctuary and Park you agree to objectively
represent all Federal government programs including those of the
NOAA/Department of Commerce and the National Park Service/Department of
Interior, regardless of your personal views. Please do not post your
personal views on this listserv as all information can become viewable
by the public. If you have any concerns please direct them to the
Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator.
2.Do not post personal identifiable information such as addresses, phone
numbers, social security numbers or email addresses. If you have a change
to your contact information notify the Volunteer and Outreach
Coordinator in order to update the contact list.
3.Do not post chain emails, special offers/advertising, or directly to
individuals. For example, please do not reply all to thank an
individual(s) for a post unless it is regarding a trip substitution and
need to inform the entire list. Use personal email to reply directly to
an individual.
4.No profanity or inappropriate language.
5.Information must be relevant to ocean, CINC, sanctuary, and Park
activities and resources. Please note that activist emails must be kept
off the list.(Activist emails are defined as a message from an advocate
of a cause, especially a political one, with the intent to initiate a
response or call to action.)
6.Use the list when locating a substitute for a boat trip or outreach
event, unless you want to contact individuals by personal email or
phone. Responses should be posted to the list so that everyone will
know that a spot has been taken. Also, please cc: the calendar
coordinator regarding boat or island trips (mary_c_fritzsche at nps.gov).
7.Please refrain from posting emails with attachments due to file size
limitations._Emails that are too large will be rejected_ _and will not
be approved_.Please post links to large Web articles with a brief
description of the article in the text.
8.Do not cc: a long list of email recipients. If you are emailing
something to the list that you are emailing to personal contacts, please
send out a separate email or your post may not go through.
