AM trip
1 Gray right after leaving harbor which still has some swirling, churning,
and surging from the quake; followed it to Hendry's Beach
then saw 500 common's spread out over long distance
Noon trip
1 Gray whale that was playing hide and seek so we ran off and hide too
then went off shore and found 3 Gray's travelling together
got a handful of good Gray PID shots after John's great lecture last week -
2 with very distinctive marks - 1 looked like a big bite out of the top and
the other was a large area with a wound of some sort
maybe these 3 were travelling together cause they had been attacked
previously and were sticking together for safety
check out Bob's pics in a couple days to see these markings!
it will be interesting to see if we see these whales next year - it would be
kind of like the Humpback "Rope" that we have seen over time
these would be hard whales to miss with these kinds of wounds - this could
be the "Chewy Gray" instead of the "Chewy Humpback"
500 commons that had now come together in a tight group (with LOTS of little
babies) and lots of cormorants and pelicans in a giant feeding bonanza
We heard of Anthony's 2 humpbacks while we were with the 3 Gray's
Let the summer of Humpbacks begin!
3pm cancelled
