Hello Naturalists,
Last Sunday, we completed our fifth week of Gray Whales Count 2011 from Counter Point, in the Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve in Goleta. This is our seventh annual survey of the northbound, gray-whale migration through the nearshore of the Santa Barbara Channel, and it is, yet again, different.
Journey North's biweekly report prepared by Jane Duden on the migration is available at http://www.learner.org/jnorth/gwhale/.
Check out Migration News.
And, I hope you will visit our website: www GrayWhalesCount.org. We update THE COUNT daily with Comments. You are able to view Comments from previous days in the Archive. Also, an updated record of THE COUNT is available for download.
In the next three weeks, the bulk of the migration will be moving up the California coast, and we will start to see calves.
Truly, the best is yet to come.
Thank you.
My best,
Michael
