Hello Troopers,
Trying to send this again. This month's Nat Geo Mag has a great article on ocean acidification. The Acid Sea, by Elizabeth Kolbert, begins by covering current research of undersea vents spewing bubbles of CO2 into the ocean around little islands off the coast of Italy near Mount Vesuvius. The natural acidification here is used as a window through which the readers can look at what is happening worldwide in our oceans due to escalating man produced CO2 emissions finding their way into the sea. Covered is the reality that 55 million years ago temperatures around the world soared, and marine then changed dramatically as well. However, the research she presents concludes that today's rate of emissions seems roughly ten times as fast , and consequently, there is not enough time for water layers in our oceans to mix, thus accentuating the problem. Go to Google: The acid sea national geographic magazine.
