The first Island trip of the season was perfect, except for the lack of a couple more
Naturalists.  I was scheduled for PID, but it was pretty easy to do both.  30 little kids from
Woodland Hills and parents plus about 20 more mostly local tourists had a fantastic trip.
The Channel looked like a calm lake, not a cloud in the sky and Humpback whales
in pairs. First a cow/calf pair, just traveling, then another pair, then 4 together, all showing
their flukes right on cue.  Forty Risso's, very friendly, then about 1000 Commons gave all
a thrill.  Moving closer to SCI we found 8 more Humpbacks, with more in the distance, all showing flukes, and a big breach.  An absolutely glorious day in the Channel, and I took most of my pics from the lower deck while talking to the folks. Capt. Mat  went to Painted
Cave before heading for port with Bob Perry, Matt and Brooke taking care of all.
This really made up for all the yucky weather we have had for two weeks !  Carolyn
