Aloha All,
A most excellent day on the water today 5/16/2001. I went with Sally and
John on the Condor Express for my evaluation and it was amazing. Captain
Matt called ³Thar She Blows² and told us that unless his eyes were playing
tricks, there were lots of whales ahead.
We had passengers from Hungary, China, Niagara Falls, Texas, Pennsylvania,
one couple from Malibu taking their grandson who they took as a child and
now is on a football scholarship to UNLV. Lots of smiles!!!
They were treated to an incredible day, ready for this:
6-10 Pacific White-sided Dolphin, 10-12 Long-beaked Common Dolphin, 18 Blue
Whales, 18 Humpback Whales, 7-10 California Sea Lions, 15-20 Harbor Seals.
We observed 3 Blue Whales exhibiting ³racing² behavior. One Blue Whale
rolling on his side and another one bringing his head out of the water
within 100 yards of the boat, Several Blue Whale flukes and numerous
Humpback flukes.
Captain Matt took us up close to Santa Cruz Island where we observed the
Harbor Seals ³hauled out² on two beaches. It doesn't¹ get any better than
this!!!
