[CINC] Eugene Radding's Funeral Th., Nov 10, 2PM Ivy Lawn

Fellow naturalists,
 
Eugene Radding's funeral services will be held tomorrow, Thursday, November 10, at 2:00 p.m. graveside at Makom HaShalom, the Jewish burial section at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura. After the funeral, family and friends are welcome at the residence of  Perry and Jody Shapiro. 
Yesterday, Eugene passed away peacefully at Community Memorial Hospital, with his wife Shirley, and many of his children and grandchildren nearby at age 87 about two hours after his daughter called as he wanted to tell me good-bye, which he did in his usual strong, precise and direct voice, just slighly muffled by an oxygen mask.  He said how much he enjoyed this last chapter in his life, clearly meaning to me that of a volunteer and naturalist of our nearby waters and islands, gems more brilliant than diamonds.
Yesterday's announcement noted Gene's passion for justice, law, politics, whales and his family,  an inspiration to all, and that Shirley, their children Sarah (Chuck) Watson, Jenny (Jerry) Mann, Joe (Janet) Radding, and Susan (Phil) Evard, their grandchildren, and Jody and Perry Shapiro, (Shirley's brother and sister-in-law) be kept in your hearts at this time of loss.
