[CINC] Whales and the bends

Awhile back, Calambokidis (sp?) speculated that Navy sonars and other loud
sounds might adversely affect some whales, not so much because of the direct
sound energy, but because they might flee, changing depth too rapidly, thus
getting the bends. With all the Navy sonar activity in southern CA waters,
this may be relevant to some of the whales we see. Woods Hole researchers
now have some direct evidence supporting this idea:
