Paul Petrich on VC duty and I on hike duty headed out to Scorpion with 83 kids from Santa Monica, a handful of campers and 4 day hikers.

We encountered about 750 common dolphin within about 6 miles of the island with many babies in the mix.

First hike of the day with day hikers, no special sightings. But in the afternoon hike with campers to Cavern Point found a humpback whale traveling west from Cavern Point overlook toward Chinese Harbor, and almost at the same time spied a bald eagle soaring below the cliff about 300 yards off the island. Could not see the markings blue or orange, though.

Special mention from Saturday, April 21 saw a raven with a fish in it's mouth fly from Scorpion Cove toward the ranch property. That was a rare sight for me. Looked it up on the Internet but couldn't find much, just that they will eat anything, even fish. I wondered if the raven stole the fish from a gull or pelican or something else?
