Hello Ocean and Island People,
Last night 109 campers at El Capitan State Beach attended our Marine Mammals of the CINMS and CINP campfire presentation. Always, our crowds are parents with kids, practically all from California. About 25% of this bunch raided their hands responding to the inquiry about who had ever gone whale watching . Over 90% as well indicated they had never been to "their' CINP. Tara Brown and Bruce Mathews did a fantastic job, as usual, in engaging with the audience and their questions after our powerpoint. Along with displaying the items in our whale kit, they dealt with a lot of questions about how to get to our CINP as well as go whale watching. We had pamphlets for the most interested, of course.
Tara enthralled the audience again with the Chumash Rainbow Bridge story, and Bruce revisited his most wonderus whale watch trip of the summer. A family in attendance shared with us that they had seen a couple sea otters on a previous visit to El Capitan, when we got to that clip for our discussion.
This was our last El Capitan presentation for the summer. It was a great run, averaging 118 in attendance. Tara, Shirley Johnson, and I will finish the summer season with this virtual whale watch presentation at Carpinteria State next Friday night at 8p.m. One of the Rangers working at El Capitan last night, who will be working at Carpinteria next season, showed great interest in a follow-up on this show that would be a virtual island hike, focusing on the seabird and terrestrial animal world of our CINP and CINMS. Stay tuned.
See you all at the CINC Picnic tomorrow! Paul
