Sightings for day:
AM: 3 greys500 common dolphinsnumerous California Sea Lions on Anacapa
PM: 2 greysNumerous California Sea Lions on Anacapa
It was a magnificent morning under clear skies and relatively calm seas with a bit colder, rougher and windier afternoon trip on the Ranger 85. Both trips were almost full with passengers from Toronto Canada, China, Japan, Ireland, Italy, The Philippines, Iowa, Washington, Arkansas Southern California and other places near and far.
The morning trip brought us about 500 common dolphins and quite a few California Sea Lions on the beaches on the Southeasten end of Anacapa. We found 3 gray whales on the south side of Anacapa. They gave passengers a great show with numerous spouts and tail flukes.
The afternoon trip was much quieter as far as sightings...a rush of many sea lions from shore to water off Anacapa beaches and 2 grey whales, a very shy one out by Anacapa and another one about 4 miles off shore on the way back. The last one gave passengers a number of beautiful views of its spout and back, but no tails.
Captain Frank and whale sighter Ricky Bobby did a terrific job of finding the whales and narrating the trip while Chris kept everyone fed in the galley.
