peregrine falcon, northern harrier (march hawk), fin whalea beautiful day and, of note, ice plant is disappearing fast. Eight students, five from Rio Mesa and three from Pacifica, went out with us (Dick Bellman and Bill Weinerth) to work onthe ice plant removal project. Ken and Robert, park employees, were busy spraying so a lot of ice plant was removed yesterday. We "haloed" to protect natives so spraying could proceed more rapidly. There were small groups of common dolphins on the way over and on the way back. The big event on the return wa the fin whale sighting.Capt. Anthony, Paige and Poncho got us onto the Island. There was a helicopter that kept flying about the island - chop chop roar, incessantly. We think it was giving tours out of Oxnard. They seemed to keep the thousand feet distance but the sound was quite disruptive!Bill Weinerth
