Hi,
No whales sighted
a.m.--Outward bound--12 Bottlenose dolphins just inside the harbor.
p.m.--Inward bound--200+ common dolphins just north of Santa Cruz.
Full boat manned by Captain Dave with crew of Lisa, Paige, and Pancho. Large group of Channel Islands Restoration people landing at Prisoner's and working in the Central
Valley for three days. Lots of campers at Scorpion. Presidents' Holiday. IPCO added a later second boat to deliver people to Anacapa and Scorpion. Naturalist Karen Teleen-Lawton,
also on the first boat (and staying for three nights), volunteered to lead a second hike for those arriving later. I took the first hike.
Moderate seas and winds in the morning. Higher winds and waves in the afternoon. Pleasant windy day on the island. Cooler in the afternoon.
Several fox sightings in the morning from Cavern Point trail and in the upper campground. Foxes were a continuous presence--two or three--in
the ranch area and between the picnic tables and the pier. Two people reported that the a fox followed them a bit. (No feeding of foxes was
taking place.)
Two junior rangers. One, almost 10 yrs. old, tried to fill out the entire booklet.
Upper campground bathrooms still locked.
