Hey Paul,, what a nice way to start our day ...fluked and breached... sunbaked beaches and rocks on the backside of Anacapa had hundreds of California Sea Lions sprawling out to claim their tanning territory...Australian accents...sunset...
Sat the morning IPCo whale watch from Ven Harbor was also cancelled though I crossed on the other cat crossed out and back to Scorp and Pris, on seas not bad as navigated by Capt. Jimmy with Andrea, Steve and Thomas.
Grays' spouts seen from our vessel and from island bluffs.
In the afternoon after many hikers were back to the Ranch area, several foxes came out to stroll and play on the beautiful day.
I shared the vessel pretty full with hikers, a few campers, kayakers with guides and wetland restorers checking Prisoners post-rain...

Subject: [CINC] Vanguard/1-28
Ahoy Ocean People,
Yesterday , the Vanguard's morning trip out of Channel Islands Harbor was cancelled due to the unseasonal east winds. However, IPCO sent her out into a gorgeous afternoon on the channel with Jason at the helm, Paige in the Galley, and 18 very appreciative passengers aboard. In the Gap between Anacapa and Santa Cruz islands we saw Grays who fluked and breached, as well as Risso Dolphins who were not as shy as they are supposed to be. The sunbaked beaches and rocks on the backside of Anacapa had hundreds of California Sea Lions sprawling out to claim their tanning territory. Some Common Dolphin joined use for a brief time on the pleasant ride home. Luke, with his Australian accent, kept everyone aboard well informed with details about each species of the mammals we encountered. The sunset was beautiful as we entered the harbor. A great day had by all, most of whom were Californians, except for a Illinois couple who had never been on the ocean.
Totals: 3 Grays; 12 Rissos; and about 100 Common Dolphin. Paul
