900 trip...

1 gray whale
3 gray whales

1200 trip...

small Common pod... about 100
3 gray whales (same 3 whales as the 900 trip)
small Common pod... about 50

Note that above facts are listed in order of appearance on the ocean stage. On the 900 trip... just about dead calm conditions with visibility that even provided notice of San Miguel off in the mist. Passengers included a family from the California desert and a gentleman who had been involved in whale documentaries with National Geographic... on board as per his wife's birthday request.

On the 1200 trip... 38 passengers including a (middle aged) couple from North Dakota; they were seeing their first ocean... and coincidentally.... their first whales... ever !

Lazy Grays, moving north at about 4 mph... symbolic of the calm and sunny day out there.


On board... Capt. Mat, Denis and Matt.... Don S. on PID and me. Nice mellow day out there !!
