Thanks so much for reporting your whimbrel sighting  to bandedbirds.org. 
Resightings along the migratory route for these birds are  still few, so even 
getting a report without the code is valuable. Hope you can  get the code next 
time! I can tell you that the flag would have been red; I've  checked with the 
banders and there is no flag orange banding of whimbrel (yet).  Also you were 
able to spot the color of the auxliary band: O over metal. I  suspect the metal 
was on the upper leg under the orange. Based on this I can  tell you the bird 
was banded in Chiloe Island, Chile in December of 2008 (year  is based on the 
orange band).
