A beautiful day out by the islands. The morning the sea was calm and we headed out toward Anacapa. On the way out we were treated to a Steller sea lion hanging out on the channel buoy.
We searched for quite some time to find whales but instead we encountered some rather large pods of common dolphins totaling around 2500. Lots of leaps and wave and bow wake riding.
On the way back into the harbor we did finally see 1 lone gray whale and it was a bit shy and we could only get glimpses of its blows.
PM was much the same conditions. Headed out and saw the lone Steller sea lion and then encountered more of the large pod of common dolphins.
Just before we headed back towards the main land we found 9 Dall's porpoises with 3 coming close to the boat and a bit of bow riding. A special viewing for our guests.
We had small groups today with visitors from London, Rochester, Nevada and Oxnard.
Great narration from our Capt Anthony, Joel, Matt and Paige. With fellow naturalist Dean Benjamin.
