[CINC] Double Dolphin 4/23

3 sightings of Gray Whales
2 cow/calf pairs
1 juvenile pair
 
We were following a to the left at a good distance when one whale slowed down and came up right by the left side of the boat, then proceeded to go under the boat and come up on the right side.  I was standing on the right side, and it rolled over and looked at me directly in the eye, then dove under and disappeared.   It is rare to have a Gray Whale approach a boat, but this was near the same spot that Paul reported seeing the Gray Whales spy hop yesterday.  I wonder why this spot is so special.
