[A ROSE MESSINA]

Sightings:  2 mother/calf pair
            small pod of approximately 30 common dolphin

Before we exited the harbor Captain Frank spotted the whales traveling west off Silver Strand beach, very near the beach.  They veered outside the breakwater, then moved closer to the beach again.  We stayed with them for over an hour as they moved slowly along the beach, even backtracking a few times coming very near the boat.  

We finally left them to head offshore in search of more wildlife.  In addition to the sea lions on the buoy, we came across the dolphins to everyone's pleasure.

Passengers were from various areas of Southern California, including many children.  

Thanks to Captain Frank, Chris and Ed for a great day on the water.
