Noon trip
Nice calm, sunny perfect whale watching day
1 Common dolphin in the harbor between the boat ramp and the boat - clearly
not well - swam around a bit then never saw again; help/rescue was called
but do not know follow-up
Several Sea lions at the 2 buoys
5 bottlenose dolphins healthy and happy, jumping and bow riding
7 Gray Whales - a single adult; cow/calf (very young); 3 with one young
calf; then a single adult
3pm trip
6+ pairs of Gray whales - 3 pair we spend most of time with as each pair had
its own schedule and swimming cycle
1 of the pair was cruising/snorkeling thru the kelp very slowly and the baby
spy-hopped a few times
Possibly others in area - very active all afternoon between harbor and
Hendry's Beach
5+Bottlenose Dolphins swimming, bow riding, jumping and entertaining us for
quite some time
A Harbor seal was seen next to the kelp
A HUGE Stellar sea lion was seen chopping on its big lunch with a couple of
Western Gulls looking for free handouts of anything left behind
Several small mola molas were seen independently
Great day spent with
Capt Scott at the helm
Brook on the mike
Mike on deck
And fellow naturalists Toni and Eileen
Cheers,
Kevin Bailey
